New Faces, New Rules, Old Nightmares.
Most fans were shocked to realize that Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is actually a PREQUEL to the first game. Even though the technology looks newer, the paycheck date confirms this takes place in 1987. This is the era of the "New and Improved" Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, featuring facial recognition technology designed to spot criminals—specifically William Afton.
But the facial recognition failed. The animatronics became aggressive toward all adults, and a second set of five children were murdered at this location, leading to the infamous "Save Them" incident.
The "Gamer" Freddy. He stays in Game Area and slowly makes his way to your office. He is less active than the others but lethal if ignored.
He enters through the Right Vent. You must put on the Freddy Mask immediately as he slides across your vision.
The most dangerous. The Mask does NOT work on him. You must flash your Flashlight repeatedly to reset his AI.
The true conductor. You must wind the Music Box on Cam 11. If it stops, she will hunt you down—no exceptions.
During the events of FNAF 2, William Afton (disguised as a night guard) murdered five more children. We see this in the 8-bit death minigames. The Puppet attempted to help these new souls, but the restaurant was already rotting from the inside. This led to the "Bite of '87," where a Toy animatronic (likely Mangle) bit a security guard, causing the restaurant to be shut down after only a few weeks.
In FNAF 2, you play as Jeremy Fitzgerald for the first six nights. On Night 7, you play as Fritz Smith, who is widely believed to be Michael Afton using another fake name. Fritz is fired on his very first day for "Tampering with Animatronics" and "Odor"—the exact same reasons he was fired in FNAF 1.
Commonly known as "Shadow Bonnie," this pitch-black silhouette appears in your office. Staring at it for more than 5 seconds will force-crash your game. Lore experts believe it's a manifestation of the "Remnant" or "Agony" left behind by past springlock failures.
Appearing only in the Parts & Service room, he sits in the same slumped position as Golden Freddy. He is purple in color, leading many to believe he is a psychic projection of William Afton’s crimes.
A bare endoskeleton can rarely appear in the Prize Corner or the Left Vent. Unlike the other robots, it has blue eyes and doesn't attack. Fans debate if this was meant to be the endoskeleton for a "Golden Foxy" or a discarded "Toy" prototype.
"JJ" is a female version of Balloon Boy with pink/purple eyes. She has a tiny chance of spawning under your desk. She doesn't steal your batteries; she just stares at you until you open the camera.
There is a 1-in-1000 chance to see these "Eyeless" screens upon starting a night or after a Game Over. These are the most searched images in FNAF 2 history.
THE "TOY CHICA" BEAK MYSTERY
Why does Toy Chica remove her beak when she leaves the stage? Scott Cawthon once teased: "In FNAF 4, why would the tiny Toy Chica be missing her beak?" This suggests the FNAF 2 animatronics might have been based on actual toys from 1983, proving the timeline is more connected than we thought.
The Mangle Bite
Golden Duo
Shadow Origin
The "Dead Children Incident"
"Everything is connected. We just haven't found the right string yet."

Q: Why are the Withered animatronics so destroyed?
A: These are the original robots from the 1985 location. They were brought to the 1987 pizza place for "parts" to build the Toy models.
Q: Who caused the Bite of '87?
A: Most evidence points to Mangle. Its jaw is broken, it hangs from the ceiling (perfect for biting a head), and its jumpscare aims directly for the frontal lobe.
Q: Is Balloon Boy (BB) possessed?
A: While BB doesn't have a confirmed soul name, he is clearly working with the others to disable your lights so Foxy can attack.
